Tre Sverige AB and Comsel System Ltd in cooperation on delivery of NB-IoT solution for Smart Energy Metering

Tre Sverige AB and Comsel System Ltd among the first to use LTE NarrowBand-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) for energy metering.

Tre Sverige AB and Comsel System Ltd co-operate in a project with LTE NarrowBand-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) regarding energy data measurements and -collection in Skåne, Sweden. Tre Sverige delivers communication via NB-IoT and Comsel System delivers metering devices and management of metering data to the project. The NB-IoT smart metering units which are installed for metering data collection and management make this project unique.

NB-IoT is a new technology developed to transfer small streams of data in a highly efficient way, which is exactly what is needed for Internet of Things. Improved coverage and longer standby periods, both with lower power consumption, are some of the technical advantages with NarrowBand. The technology is well suited to be used for energy metering, which is the case in this specific project. Tre Sverige, who delivered the communication, is one of the pioneers in Sweden within NB-IoT.

Comsel System has delivered Zodiac smart metering terminals with support for NB-IoT/M1 to the project. In addition to the NB-IoT/M1-terminals, Comsel also delivered Zodiac 3G-/4G-terminals for smart energy metering. The solution gives the customer a SLA (Service Level Agreement) of up to 100% on average, has a high degree of security and communicates easily through many different communication methods.

“We have performed field tests together with Comsel System for a couple of months in this smart metering project in Skåne. The tests show that network coverage increases dramatically for locations where it is normally weak, for example in basements and inaccessible locations in sparsely populated areas.
